Using actual numbers rather than any forecasts subject to bias, which of the big gold mining companies are performing the best in the new lower gold price environment? Whose production rate is under the most strain, which companies have shown the best cost control, what is the real cost of producing gold for this peer group, who is not spending enough on sustainable capex, which companies have the greatest debt constraints and which companies are generating the greatest returns relative to existing market ratings, ALL these questions and more will be answered using real numbers and direct comparisons without prejudice.

Joachim is a fund advisor for the Earth Gold Fund UI and the Earth Exploration Fund UI. He has an MSc degree in economic geology from the University of Cologne, a PhD in structural/mining geology from the University of Johannesburg (South Africa) and an MBA (Finance) from Durban University (South Africa). He is a geologist by training and worked for 11 years in deep level mining in the South African gold and platinum mining industry. Before launching the ERIG funds in 2006, he was co-founder of Craton Capital (2003). Prior to this he worked for Citibank (SSSB) and was rated best South African gold analyst (2001, 2002). Joachim is a retained speaker on the CFA program and a part-time lecturer in economic geology at two German universities.

Jayant advises institutional investors on investment opportunities in the natural resource sector. Earlier, he worked for six years with US Global Investors (San Antonio, Texas), a boutique natural resource investment firm, and for one year with Casey Research. Before emigrating from India, he started and ran Indian subsidiary operations of two European companies. He still travels multiple times a year to India. He has written on political, economic and cultural issues for the Liberty magazine, the Mises Institute, Casey Research, Mining Journal, Zero Hedge, Lew Rockwell, the Dollar Vigilante, Fraser Institute, Le Québécois Libre, Mauldin Economics, Northern Miner, Mining Markets etc. He is an MBA from Manchester Business School (UK) and B. Engineering from SGSITS (India).

Anthony has spent his career in various aspects of the mining industry, including as a company director, advisor, founder and investor.

Anthony has managed numerous mining investments at various stages of development, including exploration, development, production and turnaround situations, and across a broad range of commodities. He has served as a director of both public and private companies and has been seconded as interim CEO on multiple occasions. Prior to joining Pala, Anthony worked at Firebird Management, a specialist emerging market fund, where he focused on natural resource investments in Africa, Central Asia and the Former Soviet Union.

Anthony previously worked at Renaissance Capital and Skadden, Arps in Moscow, where he focused on advisory and transactional work in metals & mining and oil & gas. Anthony has lived and worked in Africa and Russia, including a year as a Fulbright scholar, and has spent considerable time in Central Asia.

Anthony holds a B.A. in Russian history from Brigham Young University, an M.A. in Russian and Central Asian Studies from the University of Washington, and a J.D. from the University of Washington. He holds an LLM in Corporate Finance from the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Martin Murenbeeld provides analysis and advice on economic and financial developments to both retail and institutional interests across North America and abroad. Dr. Murenbeeld graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1972 with a PhD in international finance. He then joined the Faculty of Management Studies at the University of Toronto to develop the international business
curriculum in the MBA program. He left the Faculty in 1978 to start M. Murenbeeld & Associates Inc. The company moved from Toronto to Victoria in 1989, where it continued to consult international clients on developments in the gold, foreign exchange and credit markets, and international economic trends.

Dr. Murenbeeld provides analysis and advice on economic and financial developments, with special emphasis on North American interest rate and currency market trends – and on trends in the gold market. Reports include the EconomicMonitor, which forecasts general economic trends occurring in North America and abroad, the Market Monitor, which covers developments in equity and capital markets in North America, the Gold Monitor, which forecasts gold market trends, the Financial Monitor, which forecasts economic, interest rate and foreign exchange market trends, and the Bond and Stock Monitor, which assists with decisions related to asset allocation.

Frequently quoted in the financial press and a regular speaker at international precious metals and foreign exchange market conferences, Dr. Murenbeeld has over 30 years of independent consulting experience in the gold, currency and credit markets and is currently also an adjunct professor (international finance) in the Faculty of Business at the University of Victoria.

As authorized principal and head of trading, Switzerland-based fund adviser and newsletter writer Björn Paffrath worked for a well-known asset manager in Germany and the United States from 2000 to 2005, where he was responsible for the precious metals and mining division. Since 2005 he has been involved with various precious metal and resource funds, which have received a number of awards. Together with his broad network, especially in Switzerland, he is financing projects and emerging producers. For several years he has been in the media as the gold and mining expert of sought-after business partners and stock commentators. In addition, he is cofounder and chief editor of the well-known, subscriber-based, financial and mining market letter, Cashkurs*Gold.
